Matteo Manassero has been named Race to Dubai European Tour Golfer of the Month for May, after his impressive BMW PGA Championship victory at Wentworth.
The 20-year-old Italian became the youngest winner of the Tour's flagship event in Virginia Water, Surrey, after he defeated 2010 champion Simon Khan in a four-hole play-off on the West Course last month.
Currently number 26 in the world, Manassero has been tipped for a bright future in golf, having already made history as the youngest winner in European Tour history, after claiming his first title at the tender age of 17 years and 188 days.
Starting June at the top of the Race to Dubai standings, Manassero continues to build on an already impressive CV, which boasts a 2009 Amateur Championship title and a silver medal for finishing as the best placed amateur in The Open the same year.
"I'm very proud to be named Golfer of the Month and I will put the award next to my BMW PGA Championship trophy," the Italian is quoted by Sky Sports, in response to receiving the accolade.
After finishing tied-fourth in the Nordea Masters in Sweden over the weekend, Manassero is now preparing for the US Open at Merion in Pennsylvania which stars a week on Thursday.
