Jimmy White saw his bid to secure qualification into the Australian Goldfields Open ended on Monday as the veteran cue man was defeated in the third round in Gloucester by Ben Woollaston.

The Whirlwind had a 5-1 victory over Joel Walker and beat Yu Delu 5-3 to reach the encounter against Woollaston, but was unable to carry his recent good form to the table against the man from Leicester.

Woollaston streaked into a three frame lead with breaks of 43, 55 and 73 before White was able to record his first success, which came courtesy of a run of 51 in the fourth.

The following two frames were scrappy affairs with neither player able to make breaks of note, but Woollaston emerged triumphant in each to record victory by a score of 5-1 and end White's hopes of a trip to Australia.

Woollaston, ranked No.33 in the world, and will meet Robert Wilkins in the last 32 of the competition, which will begin in Bendigo on July 8.
