New York Yankees bounced back from two defeats against the Boston Red Sox to claim victory in their first game against the Cleveland Indians.

After being defeated 11-1 and 3-0 by the Red Sox on Saturday and Sunday respectively, the Yankees beat Cleveland 7-4 in New York.

Four scored in the third innings meant the Yankees were always in control and despite three for Boston in the fifth, New York came back with two of their own in the sixth to secure victory.

The two teams face off again today and tomorrow.

Elsewhere, the St Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies also all hit seven runs as they were all convincing winners.

The Cardinals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1 while the Braves and Phillies were 7-2 winners over the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins respectively.

It was the Oakland Athletics though who had the biggest win as they defeated Milwaukee

Brewers 10-2.

It was when six was scored in the fifth innings by the Athletics that the game was secure.
