Wayne Rooney: I am a centre-forward
Manchester United news: Striker Wayne Rooney insists that his best position is upfront
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes he plays his best football as a centre-forward.
Rooney spent part of the season playing in midfield and said that is a position he could play in the future but wants to play as a striker for the Red Devils.
"In the years to come, that might be somewhere I could play, but, right now, I'm definitely a centre-forward. I'm after more goals," Rooney told FourFourTwo magazine. "I've played up front on my own a few times for Manchester United and it's a role I'm very comfortable with and have no problems playing.
"When you play as a target man, you have to stay up front and help the team out by holding the ball up and waiting for support. That all comes with experience.
"It's a good role for me to play, and hopefully I can continue doing well there."
New manager David Moyes is expected to hold talks with Rooney in the next few weeks, and it is thought the England international - who scored against Brazil at the Maracana on Sunday - will be told that his future lies at Old Trafford.
Moyes is expected to also add several players this summer, with reports linking Manchester United with Everton left-back Leighton Baines among others.
