The Metro has reported that sources in New Delhi are considering giving the current Indian league a complete face lift.
With this new look to the Indian League the Sports Management company, IMG, are reportedly looking to bring in some world-class stars.
They have apparently earmarked retired English duo David Beckham and Michael Owen.
"We are in the final stages of talks with the agents of both Michael Owen and David Beckham so that they can play for two months in the new franchise based tournament," a source from the All India Football Federation reportedly told local media.
He continued to say that they are pursuing Spanish legend Raul, and that Owen and Beckham had stated a serious desire to play in India.
The league would take on a format similar to that of the Indian Premier League, in twenty20 cricket. The IPL is seen as a showpiece event for twenty20 cricket and Indian football league would much like to do the same.
The IPL attracted huge amounts of interest when some of the best players decided to join the league, and in doing so cash in on some serious amounts of money.
One would believe that a lot of money would be needed for the idea of the league to really take off, because the likes of Beckham, Owen and Raul are unlikely to come cheap.
