New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to land a big name striker this summer and has moved for Brazil international Hulk with a £35million bid after missing out on Radamel Falcao.

Stamford Bridge owner Roman Abramovich is ready to back Mourinho in his second spell in charge and has sanctioned a £35million bid for the Zenit St Petersburg striker, according to the Mirror.

The report claims Mourinho was keen on taking Atletico Madrid striker Falcao to Chelsea, but the Colombian opted to join big-spending Ligue 1 club AS Monaco last week in a surprise move.

That disappointment has led Mourinho to turn to Hulk, who, the report claims, was very close to joining Chelsea last summer in a £40million deal before opting for the Russian side.

Zenit are reportedly ready to consider offers for the 26-year-old after a fractious year with the club, in which he fell out with coach Luciano Spaletti, was booed by home fans and sparked unrest in the dressing room due to his sizeable wages.

Hulk is a powerful forward who can play in any position across the front and, were he to complete a move to Chelsea, would join fellow Brazil internationals Oscar, David Luiz and Ramires in west London.
