Former Manchester United player Ruud van Nistelrooy has stated the importance of new manager David Moyes adopting an entertaining style of football and continuing the trend of winning trophies at Old Trafford if he is to be a success at Manchester United.

Moyes faces the unenviable task of following in the footsteps of Sir Alex Ferguson who served as Manchester United’s manager for the best part of 27 years. A reign in which Manchester United was transformed into the global institution it is today.

"Success at Manchester United? It doesn't matter which manager it is you need to compete on all fronts so that will be expected of him and I don't think that will be a surprise [to Moyes]," he told reporters.

"I think everyone expects a league title, FA Cup, Champions League trophy and playing some good football.

"In that sense the pressure is full on but I think he knows what he is getting into.

"I don't know him personally but he looks like a guy who will handle that."

Moyes does not officially take charge until July 1 but has already been familiarising himself with the set up at the club and has already began to put his own touch on the Old Trafford surroundings evident from the change in backroom staff positions.

Van Nistelrooy also stated that along with the backroom staff changes United fans can expect some changes in the playing staff as well. Among the many challenges facing Moyes is the happiness of striker Wayne Rooney who in all likelihood looks set for the Old Trafford door unless Moyes can convince Rooney otherwise.

An era of evolution has begun at Manchester United and there is some uneasiness amongs the United fans that a system that has worked splendidly over the past years is being tinkered with as Moyes takes the reins at Old Trafford.

Moyes may endure a tough time at the helm with rivals Manchester City and Chelsea both gearing up for a battle for the title but if Moyes continues to persevere with the policy of promoting youth players from United’s academy then success is almost guaranteed to follow.
