Millwall appoint Steve Lomas as manager

Millwall have confirmed that Steve Lomas will become the new manager after a successful round of interviews.

Lomas has been selected as the preferred candidate to take over from former manager Kenny Jackett, who resigned on 7th May, and who has since taken over as the manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Lomas had been at St Johnstone for two seasons, and was known for his hunger and passion. And Millwall chairman John Berylson has stated this is one of the reasons that the former Manchester City and West Ham midfielder was chosen for the job.

Speaking to Millwall TV, Berylson said of Lomas: "Steve has great passion and energy, knows a lot about Millwall as a club already, and this is a job he is genuinely hungry for."

"We want the best man for the job, and we believe that man is Steve Lomas," said Berylson.

Lomas will begin his duties at the Den at the start of next week, as he finishes his holiday after his departure from St Johnstone.

Despite his success with the Perth club, some Millwall fans have been concerned with the lack of experience that Lomas has in top-flight management. Apart from the St Johnstone job, Lomas has managed St Neots Town in Non League, and had a spell as reserve team manager at West Ham.

Lomas managed to guide St Johnstone to consecutive top-six finishes, meaning a place in Europa League qualification was confirmed during both seasons he was at the helm.
