Parker leads Spurs past Heat in comeback thriller

.

Tony Parker scored 21 points as the San Antonio Spurs stunned the Miami Heat to win Game One of the NBA Finals at the AmericanAirlines Arena, Florida.

The Spurs guard banked home an awkward shot with 5.2 seconds left to cap a memorable comeback by Gregg Popovich's team.

LeBron James still posted a triple-double for the Heat, but it wasn't enough as the Spurs blew their opponents away down the stretch in the fourth quarter.

It had been a thrilling game, with the Heat taking a three-point lead into the final period, but the veterans on this hugely gifted Spurs team found a way to get it done.

"We got a little bit luck in Game 1," Parker told ESPN. "Sometimes that's what it takes to win games."

Tim Duncan added 20 points and 14 rebounds, Manu Ginobili had 13 points and Danny Green chipped in with 12.

Duncan, Parker and Ginobili comprise the Spurs' big three that have combined for 99 playoff wins together, including four championships.

And this was their first trip to the Finals since they blew away LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers in 2007.

James' stat line finished at 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists for his second straight NBA Finals triple-double, but the Heat's offence was smothered by the Spurs in the fourth quarter, with Kawhi Leonard in particular doing well up against James.

The Spurs held Miami to just seven points in the first half of the fourth quarter, while they played great offence, turning the ball over just four times over the course of the match.

"The Spurs are the Spurs," James told ESPN afterwards. "They're going to put you in positions where you feel uncomfortable offensively and defensively, and every time you make a mistake, they're going to capitalise on it."

The Heat lost Game One of the Finals last year against the Oklahoma City Thunder before striking back to win the next four to take the title.

Game Two is Sunday evening in Miami.
