Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Toby Alderweireld has opened the door to a possible summer move from Ajax.
The 24-year-old defender has been linked with both the Reds and Spurs, according to The Independent, whilst clubs in Russia and Portugal have also shown an interest in the Belgian.
However, it’s a switch to either the Premier League or Bundesliga which appeals most to the 25-cap international, who has built a solid reputation at the Amsterdam Arena over the past five years.
"England and Germany are the best leagues where I think I can take the next step,” he told De Telegraaf.
"I have to go somewhere where I can play football a bit and where my style of play suits.
"On the other hand, I do not want to play for a team at the bottom of their league. I want to leave Ajax for a nice club, otherwise I'll just stay in Amsterdam."
Liverpool have been linked with the player on a number of occasions in the past, according to the paper, and manager Brendan Rodgers has a gap to fill at Anfield following Jamie Carragher’s retirement.
The veteran was a regular in the starting XI for the Merseysiders at the end of the campaign, and his exit leaves Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates fighting for a place in the side.
Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, have more options at the back, with Michael Dawson, Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Steven Caulker all in Andre Villas-Boas’ squad.
Alderweireld would add another option to the Spurs boss at White Hart Lane, and also offers cover at right back if required in north London.
