San Lorenzo's bid to land Newcastle United skipper Fabricio Coloccini looks dead and buried after a deal collapsed, according to reports.
The Argentinian side have failed to raise the funds needed to take the player back to his home country as he remains on a three year contract.
It is rumoured that Colocinni would be interested in a return to his home country but the only way for him to get out of his contract is for the 31-year-old to request a transfer away from Newcastle, something he is reluctant to do.
Despite the interest from San Lorenzo, Coloccini has been told he will be able to stay as Newcastle captain if he stays at St James' Park next year.
The transfer window officially opens on July 1 and Coloccini must report back to the club’s Benton base ten days later after being granted an extra week off due to international duty.
The Argentinian has made 184 appearances in his five seasons at Newcastle, scoring five goals.
