Sunderland striker Danny Graham has emerged as a transfer target for North East rivals Middlesbrough, despite the fact that he only joined the Black Cats in January this year according to the Daily Star.

The Gateshead born striker has not established himself in the Sunderland team, failing to score in eleven Premier League appearances, since his arrival from Swansea City, in a £5 million deal.

He signed for Sunderland as his family was unhappy living away from their native north-east, so a move to Middlesbrough may well be on the cards.

In fact there were rumours that Graham nearly signed for Tony Mowbray’s side on deadline day in January, in a player plus cash deal, but the striker wanted to remain in the Premier League.

However, it is increasingly obvious that he is not part of Paulo Di Canio’s plans, as the Italian lines up a deal for Brazilian striker Paulinho, with three other strikers already on the books.

This could mean the end for Graham who does not want to be a bench warmer next season and Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray could offer him a way out of Wearside, as he looks to strengthen his squad to make a push for promotion next season.
