Despite Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy becoming increasingly annoyed by the continued attention from Real Madrid to Spurs’ star man Gareth Bale, Real president Florentino Perez has again stated his desire to bring the Welshman to the Bernabeu.
Perez said that Bale would be well worth breaking the world record signing of Cristiano Ronaldo four years ago, when Real Madrid signed the Portugal international for £80m - and he said he’ll happily shell out the £85m it will take to procure the Welshman’s services.
He even compared Spurs’ top scorer of last season with tennis star Rafael Nadal.
“It is the same as one would think if we had a tennis section and Nadal was asking us for all this money," Perez was quoted as saying by the Mirror. “For these players that generate and produce income, you can give your whole life.”
Spurs, meanwhile, are standing firm and are seemingly indifferent to the vast amounts of money that is being offered for Bale. Levy insists that the winger will not be going anywhere and that he’ll still be plying his trade in north London next season.
Perez is well aware of Levy’s displeasure and irritation at the continued speculation surrounding Bale.
He added: “I don’t want to talk about Bale too much because Spurs are a friendly club and it would irritate them if we talked about him.
“I know their president well and he doesn’t like these things.”
Spurs should continue to resist the Spanish giants’ efforts to pinch their star player if they are to launch a renewed campaign for a top-four spot next season, as the Welshman would form a major part of that effort.
