Galatasaray star can reunite with Mourinho for £12.75m

Published 10 Comments

Galatasaray president Unal Aysal has opened the door for Wesley Sneijder to re-join Jose Mourinho at Chelsea after admitting he'd consider a bid of £12.75m for the Dutch playmaker, according to the Daily Mirror.

Sneijder played under the new Stamford Bridge boss at Inter Milan, and was a key part of the double-winning team of 2009-10.

The Holland international, who recently lost the national team captaincy to Robin Van Persie after struggling with form and fitness, has hinted at working with Mourinho again at some point in the future.

And with Mourinho now officially at work as Chelsea boss, Aysal has informed the Premier League side of Sneijder's asking price.

"I have been following the rumours about Sneijder, but we have not received an offer for him," said Aysal.

"If an offer in the region of €15m (£12.75m) comes in, we might decide to sell him though."

Chelsea could face competition from Tottenham, who view the 29-year-old as a Champions League-calibre player capable of leading them to a top four finish next term.

But the Dutchman's wage demands could prove a stumbling block - especially since Sneijder hasn't shown his best form since playing under Mourinho at Inter.

But Sneijder is desperate to prove himself again after losing the national team captaincy.

"It was a pretty painful announcement," said the Galatasaray star. "Not just because I never saw this coming, but also because I have always given my all in the role as captain.

"I will have to accept this, though. It was a huge blow for me. The coach told me that I should focus on myself for now and use my energy to regain top fitness.

"I was planning to do that anyway, though. I am more eager than ever before.

"I know that I have not shown enough recently and that I will have to step it up a notch. But I am confident that I can reach my level from the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 again."
