Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists that he still has faith in the ability of striker Fernando Torres, and has told the media that he is happy to keep the Spain international in order to “get the best” out of him.
This will be somewhat relieving for the striker as a lot of rumours have been circling Stamford Bridge, stating that he may be ready to move on after what can frankly be referred to as a frustrating spell since arriving from Liverpool.
Mourinho expressed his interest in keeping Torres at Stamford Bridge, stating: “Fernando is more than happy to stay and work hard. If the best for all of us is for Fernando to stay, let's help him and try and get the best out of him.”
Chelsea have been linked to a host of other high-profile strikers this summer, including Napoli's Edinson Cavani.
But, for the time being, Torres can enjoy the seemingly confident backing from his new boss, and be more comfortable in his position in the team - although he should bear in mind that Romelu Lukaku may play in the first team in the new season after an excellent campaign on loan at West Brom.
