Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa has set his sights on becoming as influential as Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford.
The Japanese midfielder impressed in the later stages of the season following a £12m transfer from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but Kagawa initially struggled to make an impression at Old Trafford.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated Kagawa stated: "I wasn't satisfied with my overall performance but I played well in the second half of the season and started to get more and more confidence."
Kagawa also highlighted the Confederations Cup as an opportunity to continue the good form he began to show towards the end of last season, which included a hat-trick against Norwich.
"Hopefully I can keep my form going at the Confederations Cup. In this business, you need to be like Rooney of Van Persie and prove yourself if you want the ball. I want to be a player like them, which means I need results," continued Kagawa.
Japan will be playing in Group A in the tournament, which begins on Saturday. And with Kagawa's Japan being in a group that includes Italy, Mexico and Brazil, Kagawa has another chance to show the kind of form that impressed in the second half of last season.
