Notre Dame starting quarterback will be Tommy Rees

.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has revealed that Tommy Rees will be his starting quarterback next season.

Kelly had previously intimated that it would be a three-man battle to replace Everett Golson, with Andrew Hendrix and Malik Zaire also in contention for the spot.

But, whilst he believes the duo will both contribute at some stage for the Fighting Irish, it’s Rees who will take the first snap of the competitive campaign in August.

Rees started 12 of 13 games for Notre Dame in 2011 as the team went 8-5. He also featured in four key victories last season when required.

The quarterback spot has become available after Golson was suspended for the fall semester for ‘poor academic judgement’.

Notre Dame start their campaign with a clash against Temple, before traveling to Michigan and Purdue. They then host Michigan State and Oklahoma before the Shamrock Series at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.
