Texas have flexed their recruitment muscle once again by convincing promising 2015 safety Johnny Shaw to switch his commitment from TCU to the Longhorns.
The Longhorns have history when it comes to getting players to change their allegiances with Marcus Johnson, Dalton Santos and Daje Johnson all having previously dumped their first choices for Texas.
Shaw had an agreement with TCU Horned Frogs but, after impressing coaches at the mini-camp last Sunday, the sophomore was offered the opportunity he always wanted - the chance to represent Texas.
"Texas is Texas," Shaw told 247sports. "I've always wanted to be here. That's me. It's who I am."
Shaw ended last season with 88 tackles and five interceptions and performed well enough at the Longhorns' mini-camp to get an offer, having previously intimated he would change his commitment if Texas came calling.
Shaw is a lifelong Longhorns supporter and is now eager to get stared having made the decision that he had always wanted.
“I'm just excited,” Shaw added. “This is the kind of thing that makes all the work worth with it.”
Shaw says his coaches will not regret their decision to offer him a route into the Longhorns squad, and is ready to repay the faith shown him him.
"I'm just going to keep working hard to get better," he explained. "I learned some things from Coach [Duane] Akina today that I can go back and use."
