USC offer scholarship to 8th grade wide receiver

.

USC have offered a scholarship to 8th grade student Nathan Tilford to play wide receiver, according to ESPN sources.

The 6ft 2in middle-schooler will not graduate from high school for another four years, but USC coach Lane Kiffin already wants to sign him.

High school recruiting assessors have Tilford projected as one of Southern California's top incoming freshman.

And he impressed watching scouts with accomplished performances against high school players in the local 7-on-7 circuit.

He's already met Kiffin and attended USC practices as the college looks to become more pro-active in recruiting the state's top talent.

USC have offered scholarships to seven elite local prospects for the class of 2015, including highly rated defensive back Iman Marshall and 2016 wide receiver Brandon Burton.

But Tilford is USC's first offer to a class of 2017 student - although he's not the first in the country as Alabama, LSU and Texas have all extended offers to Baton Rouge student Dylan Moses.

USC endured a disappointing campaign last season. Having been ranked as the number one team in the country in the AP preseason poll, they failed to live up to expectations and would eventually finish the campaign 7-5, including painful losses to local rivals UCLA and eventual national championship runners-up Notre Dame.
