Cardiff City could be without midfielder Aron Gunnarsson for the start of the season after he suffered a shoulder injury on international duty.

Gunnarsson was injured after a heavy fall in Iceland's 4-2 defeat to Slovenia on Friday and was rushed to hospital.

If the injury sustained by the 24-year-old turns out to be a dislocated shoulder, it could rule him out for 10-12 weeks, meaning he would miss the start of Cardiff's first Premier League season.

Gunnarsson moved to Cardiff from Coventry in 2011 and has made 95 appearances for the Welsh club, scoring 12 times.

Last season, he missed just the one league game as the Bluebirds won the Championship and he scored eight goals along the way too.

He has also made 33 appearances for his country but is yet to find the net in an Iceland shirt.

He is now back in the Welsh capital and will have his injury reassessed this week.
