Monaco are planning to bid a world-record £85m for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Independent.
The rich newly-promoted Ligue 1 side, who have already signed a host of star names including Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez this summer, are expected to begin talks with the winger's representatives.
Whether or not Real Madrid will want to let him go is another story. Many people will talk about him being the best in the world - and why not?
Usually it is only Barcelona's Lionel Messi who he is compared to. Everyone knows he certainly has what it takes to deserve that title which is why if Real Madrid are to surprisingly accept the offer they will do so with much hesitation; even if they can buy a several fantastic players for that amount of money, there aren't any players quite like him.
Monaco have already beaten Chelsea to the signature of Falcao and could very well do so with a few more players, with Ronaldo no doubt being the biggest one.
They would be an absolute power house if they can add him to their squad.
Certainly an interesting situation to keep an eye on. If there are reports of Madrid possibly considering the offer, we can expect other clubs to get involved - although very few would be willing to match Monaco's financial power.
A departure cannot be ruled out, as Ronaldo has reportedly been open to a Manchester United return, so we know that he could potentially leave given the right offer.
