Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini is keen on a move to the Emirates but that boss Arsene Wenger is, characteristically, unwilling to loosen Arsenal’s purse strings reports The Mirror.

Although Ivan Gazidis has made it clear that Wenger has more than enough capital at his disposal with which to do as he sees fit this summer, the Frenchman apparently has doubts whether the £23m asking price represents good value for the Belgian.

It has been perceived that Arsenal are awaiting permission from Everton to hold talks with Fellaini, but The Mirror now reports that Everton haven’t received a single inquiry from the Emirates club.

New man in charge Roberto Martinez is bracing himself for a bid, though, and chairman Bill Kenwright has conceded that there will be nothing to stop Fellaini from leaving if the £23m release clause is met by a top four club.

Fellaini has revealed to close friends that he would like a move to London, his chief reason being that the capital is only two hours on the Eurostar away from his hometown Brussels.

David Moyes is said to be keen on taking his former player with him to Old Trafford, but Fellaini will seemingly opt for an Arsenal or Chelsea move if either club decided to make a bid for him.

Arsenal fans would be desperate for Wenger to shell it out for the Belgian star. He has matured into one of the most complete attacking midfielders in the league and at 25, with plenty of Premier League experience, he is a prime candidate to help fire Arsenal to success next season.

However, Martinez has expressed his desire to retain the Belgium international’s services at Goodison Park, but, failing that, he will certainly not accept anything below the full amount stipulated in Fellaini’s contract.

The ball is therefore firmly in Wenger’s court and he’ll have to decide whether Fellaini is worth shattering Arsenal’s transfer record for.
