Matthew Upson is on the radar of Leeds United and Brighton after a successful loan spell with the Seagulls this season, according to reports.

Upson was recently released from Stoke City after making just two appearances for the Potters last season before being loaned to the south coast.

The 34-year-old helped Brighton to a play-off position in the Championship this season where they were beaten over two legs in the semi-final by Crystal Palace.

Upson started his career at Luton Town before moving to Arsenal. He made 57 appearances for the Gunners, despite going out on loan on three occasions.

He joined Birmingham City in 2002 and went on to make 128 appearances, scoring five times for the St Andrew’s club. He was at Birmingham for five years until signing for West Ham in January 2007.

Upson made 145 appearances while at Upton Park before joining Stoke in 2011. He was one of seven players released by the club last week.
