Tottenham Hotspur are favourites to land Barcelona striker David Villa this summer, according to reports.
The Daily Star claims Spurs are ahead of Arsenal in the race for the Spanish star, who would cost either Premier League club £12million.
The paper also claims that Barcelona are ‘desperate’ to offload the 31-year-old former Valencia star, who is currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
Barca will look to generate £30million through the sale of two players, with Alexis Sanchez the other man tipped to make a Nou Camp exit in the report.
Neither Tottenham Hotspur nor the Gunners have been able to agree a deal for Villa yet though, as both look to boost their attacking options for the new season.
Andre Villas-Boas only had two senior options available up-front last season, with injuries and a lack of form affecting both Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor during the Spurs campaign.
Villa would add an additional threat at White Hart Lane, but Tottenham Hotspur don’t have Champions League football to offer after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season.
Arsenal beat their north London rivals to the fourth and final spot in Europe’s premier club competition, but are also light in attack.
Arsene Wenger was forced to rely on Olivier Giroud for the majority of the campaign, with Theo Walcott and Gervinho playing through the middle when required for the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.
However, the report claims Arsenal are currently behind in the race for the hitman, and may have to move quickly to bring the player to the club.
