Arsenal and Manchester United may only have to pay as little as €3million to sign the ‘new Michael Ballack’ but they will lose out to Schalke if they do not hurry.
German newspaper Bild are claiming that Schalke are on the verge of completing a deal for the 18-year-old but his club VfL Bochum are dragging their feet over an alleged release clause in his contract.
The report claims Goretzka is ready to sign a five-year contract with the Royal Blues after they believe they have activated the release clause of around €3million, though Bochum have moved to block the transfer and will not confirm the player has a clause in his contract.
Arsenal and Manchester United have both been credited with an interest in the powerful young midfielder, whom is tipped for big things after breaking into the Bochum first team at such a young age.
The Gunners are reportedly set for a huge spending spree this summer as manager Arsene Wenger looks to renew his squad and Goretzka could be lined up as a long-term addition to a central midfield that lacks some physical presence.
Meanwhile, Manchester United may see the Germany Under-17 international as the long-term solution to well known concerns over the Old Trafford midfield.
It would appear that the most likely scenario would be both Arsenal and Manchester United will losing out to Schalke for Goretzka, but Bochum’s stalling could give them an opportunity to interject in the deal.
