Europe’s top goalscorers: Price per goal
GMS estimate how much Europe’s top clubs pay for each of their best strikers’ goals
Summer transfer window madness is approaching fast and all the top clubs will be looking for some great value when it comes to new recruits.
Actually, it isn’t approaching fast, it’s approaching at a constant rate, but you get what GMS mean.
We are sure there will be more than a few big-money signings out there and clubs are usually shelling the largest piles of cash for goals.
Goals are the one thing that ratchet up a price tag more than anything else – but which players give you the best value for their goals? Which players have the worst value when it comes to goals?
GMS have taken the transfer fees for a selection of the most high profile strikers in European football and divided to by the amount of league goals they scored in the proceeding two seasons to give a rough idea of how valuable each goal is.
For the players we picked out that have had only one season with their new clubs we used their tally from the season before to help even it out.
Some players have been at their current clubs for a while, so GMS decided to take the transfer price stated on Transfermarkt and divided that number by their previous two year goals record.
GMS realises this isn’t in any way scientific and we stress that this isn’t intended to be taken as a definitive estimate – it’s just a rough way of getting something of an idea about how much money clubs are paying for per goal.
GMS also realises that the circumstances around every transfer differs, with things like age and contract length being especially important – this is just a bit of fun.
