Edinson Cavani’s mother has claimed her son in in talks with Manchester City and Real Madrid but not Chelsea, as has been reported.
Chelsea’s new manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to recruit the Napoli striker and it had even been claimed this week that Blues owner Roman Abramovich was ready to pay his release fee.
Both Manchester City and Real Madrid had been credited with an interest in the Uruguay international but the nature of the reports suggested the Stamford Bridge club were in poll position.
However, the latest comments from Berta Gomez to a radio station in Uruguay suggest this may not be the case and officials at Etihad Stadium and Santiago Bernabeu are in the driving seat.
“Edi is in talks with Manchester City and Real Madrid,” she is reported as saying in a talkSPORT report.
"The Napoli president [Aurelio De Laurentiis] talked about the possibility of negotiating with Chelsea, but at the moment there is nothing concrete. In 15 or 20 days we will know more and be able to say something.
"I assure you that however it goes, he loves Naples and if he leaves he would never forget the love and affection of the people there."
Strong interest in Cavani is understandable, as he has had a terrific season in Naples, finishing top scorer in Serie A with 29 goals and 38 in all competitions.
