Manchester United are preparing to break the bank to sign Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale this summer.

According to The Sun, the English champions are poised to complete a world-record transfer this summer.

The Glazers will hand new boss David Moyes more cash than ever to land either Bale or Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid star has opened the door for his former club by insisting his future at the Spanish giants is far from certain.

Ronaldo yesterday tweeted: “All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid are false.”

Ronaldo reportedly remains Moyes' first choice target ahead of Tottenham star Bale.

However, if the Portuguese captain signs a new deal with Real, Manchester United are ready to make a sensational £85m bid for the Wales international, breaking Real Madrid's transfer record of £80m for Ronaldo in 2009.

Spurs are desperate to keep Bale, 23, but a world-record fee would be impossible to reject.

The Welshman is also being chased by Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has two years left on his Real deal but his tweet has made it clear that he could be available this summer.
