Arsenal and Tottenham have been dealt an apparent blow in their respective pursuits of Barcelona striker David Villa, with club president Sandro Rosell denied the player will leave the Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.
The future of Villa as a Barcelona player has been the subject of speculation for a number of months, with a transfer to the Premier League touted as the player's most likely destination before the September deadline.
Arsenal and Tottenham have both been credited with interest in the 31-year-old Spain international as Arsene Wenger and Andre Villas-Boas look to reinforce their respective goalscoring ranks over the summer months.
However, the north London duo may have to look elsewhere for potential forward recruits after Rosell maintained Villa has not been the subject of any approach, and would Barcelona would not welcome any bids for the player.
"The rumours about the future of David Villa are not true," Rosell told Sport.
"He is a forward who belongs to our club and until now we have not received offers. He has a contract with the club and that will remain."
