Christian Wade has been withdrawn from England’s clash against Argentina and called up to the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia as injury cover.
The London Wasps' back made his test debut for England in their 32-3 win over Argentina last weekend, and was named amongst the starting XV for the second test against the Pumas in Buenos Aires on Saturday.
Wade has been called up as injury cover for the Lions ahead of the first test against Australia next Saturday, with wing George North struggling with a tight hamstring.
Wade is the 3rd England player to be called up from their tour of Argentina, with Alex Corbisiero and Billy Twelvetrees already Down Under.
Gloucester wing Jonny May has been called up for England's test against Argentina in Wade’s place.
England Head Coach Stuart Lancaster said: “We’re delighted for Christian. He’s been in excellent form, played really well on his Test debut against Argentina last weekend and he goes with the best wishes of all the England players and management.
“Jonny May comes into the side to win his first cap against the Pumas today. He’s been an important part of our squad over the last four weeks, he’s up to speed with everything we’re doing and this is a great opportunity for him.”
The Lions remain unbeaten on their tour of Australia after their emphatic 17-47 win over the New South Wales Waratahs at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday.
The victory came at a price however after centre Jamie Roberts limped off during the second half.
Wade will depart from Buenos Aires tonight and is due to arrive in Australia on Monday.
