Chelsea fans may be preparing to say good-bye to talented young defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel as the Nigerian has become the latest target for Turkish side Galatasaray.
According to reports from The Guardian, the Turkish champions are preparing a bid for Mikel in the hope that he will be tempted to reunite with former team mate and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
As Mikel is contracted to Chelsea until 2017 the Turkish club will have to buy out the remainder of the Nigerian's contract, as they plan to replace Felipe Melo who will return to Juventus after a loan spell.
Mikel has been at Chelsea for seven seasons since his move to the Stamford Bridge club in 2006. In just his first two seasons he played so well for the Blues that by his second season he was nominated for the club’s Player of the Year and Young Player of the Season Awards.
In his third season in Mikel continued to play very well and won the FA Cup and the Premier League.
It is thought a bid in excess of £12million will be necessary to tempt Jose Mourinho to sell the player he originally brought to the club in 2006.
Mikel started 19 games for Chelsea in the Premier League last season after an injury-interrupted campaign and is currently playing for Nigeria in the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
