Former Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty is reportedly having a medical with Serie A team Palermo after leaving current side FC Sion, according to Sky Sports.

Lafferty has made the decision to leave Swiss Super League club FC Sion after only one season, where he made 28 appearances, scoring eight goals.

Former Rangers and AC Milan star Gennaro Gattuso managed Lafferty at Sion, but has since made the move to become the new manager of Palermo, and he wants Lafferty to join-up with him again in Italy.

Lafferty moved to Switzerland after the financial meltdown of former club Rangers, who were relegated to the third division of Scottish football in 2012.

And he looks certain to join the relegated Serie A side, after they found themselves finishing 18th last season, ensuring they will play in Italy's second division next season.

And Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has since confirmed the move on Italian radio station Radio Radio.

"We have sealed a deal for Lafferty," confirmed Zamparini. "He is someone who can lead the attack by himself, similar to Luca Toni.

"In Switzerland he hasn't scored many goals, so we hope we can get them here. In attack we have players like Paulo Dybala and Abel Hernandez, plus a few more who will arrive."
