Barcelona have a tradition of producing some of the best youth players in world football from the much-lauded La Masia academy.
It now appears as though some credit needs to go to the Camp Nou club’s women’s team, if the video below is anything to go by.
The Copa de la Reina final was the setting for Alexia Putellas of Barcelona women to become an internet sensation after scoring the kind of goal Lionel Messi would be proud of.
Barcelona were up against Prainsa Zaragoza and dismantled them in running out 4-0 winners, but it was Putellas’ strike that really caught the eye.
Running on to a through ball, the 19-year-old had two defenders between her and the goalkeeper.
She deals with this predicament brilliantly but pulling off a drag back and flick forward to skip between the pair trying to close her down, before rounding the goalkeeper and stabbing it into the empty net.
Zaragoza’s goalkeeper was not pleased at all about the goal and the camera shows her giving the defenders an earful, which GMS think is a little harsh considering how good the piece of skill was.
