Life in England must not be as bad as everyone makes out because while some players moan about the weather and the food, one foreign export can’t wait to return.

German goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler spent his formative years as a trainee with Manchester United before moving back to his homeland but now has his sights set on a return to England.

Zieler joined United in 2005 from boyhood club FC Koln and spent five years at Old Trafford cutting his teeth at Carrington.

Things started well for the German stopper who rose through the ranks to earn a place on the bench for the League Cup tie against Middlesbrough in 2008 aged 19.

The goalkeeper took in a brief loan spell with Northampton Town before returning to United only to suffer a broken arm during a reserve team game against Newcastle, which proved a major setback to the youngster's hopes of making the grade as Ben Amos established himself ahead of Zieler.

Sir Alex Ferguson helped orchestrate a move back to Germany and Zieler joined Hannover 96, where he has become the Bundesliga club’s number one making over 100 appearances in three years.

Zieler has also picked up his first two senior caps for Germany and will be hoping to cement a place in Joachim Low’s squad for next summer's World Cup in Brazil and has set his sights on returning to England to help him achieve his ambitions.

"I have a past as a player in England and I fluently speak the language, too.” Zieler told German newspaper BiLD. "The people over there are totally keen on football and I am definitely able to imagine coming out for a club in their league in the future."

He added: "Of course, my desire is to play for a real top club during my career."

Having been recently linked with a move to Liverpool to replace potentially Barcelona-bound Pepe Reina club president Martin Kind was quick to pour cold water on any move and the Reds now look set to sign Sunderland ‘keeper Simon Mignolet.

Whether anything comes of it this summer remains to be seen but if not it looks likely to happen at some point in the future; this is one young German with a point to prove.
