Chelsea chase £10m French star

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia as a key summer transfer window acquisition following his return to Stamford Bridge.

According to The Independent, Mourinho is keen to add another defensive midfielder to his ranks, and the 20-year-old Kondogbia has been placed at the top of the Portuguese's list of targets.

Kondogbia only transferred to Sevilla last summer from French club Lens, but impressed enough during his maiden season in Spain to emerge as a target for some of the most prominent clubs on the continent.

Along with Chelsea, Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City have also been credited with interest in the Frenchman, while Real Madrid are also reported to be monitoring his situation with his current employers.

Chelsea, however, appear to be the frontrunners for Kondogbia having scouted the France under-20 international extensively over the past few months, and a bid for his services is seemingly imminent.

The Blues could reportedly capture the player for as little as £10 million, with Chelsea viewing Kondogbia as a far cheaper alternative to others in his position with more established profiles.

Chelsea have also been linked with Sami Khedira of Real Madrid and Italy international Daniele De Rossi, but the west Londoners would have to spend significantly more to acquire the services of either of these players.
