Manchester United winger Luis Nani has become a target for Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The Portuguese star is entering his final year of his contract and United may look to cash in on the former Sporting Lisbon man. He was in indifferent form last season, drafted in and out of the team and may look for a move.

Nani found it hard to break into the title winning team under Sir Alex Ferguson but even under new manager David Moyes, there are no guarantees of a start.

Arsene Wenger is thought to be waiting in the wings for the winger and is ready to pounce should the 26-year-old decide to find pastures new.

But with Arsenal thought to have substantial funds to spend this summer, would Nani prove a shrewd signing, albeit if the champions agreed to the sale?

In 2007 United signed Nani for £17m, since then he has won four Premier League titles and a Champions League. During Nani's time at Old Trafford he has often been a thorn in Arsenal’s side, in fact one of his stand out performances for his current club came at the Emirates in a man of the match display, which helped down the Gunners 3-1.

Arsenal's current side are lacking a natural winger with flair and positional awareness. Both Theo Walcott and Lukasz Podolski occupied the flanks for much of the campaign just gone and both are regarded as natural strikers.

Nani on the other hand is much more comfortable in possession and his crossing ability matched with his talent of taking players on would definitely offer the Gunners with an alternative dimension.

On the other hand, the Portugal international has been heavily criticised for his inconsistent displays. There is no doubting Nani's ability, having scored 40 goals in 212 appearances for the Red Devils but his failure to take off like his Portuguese predecessor Cristiano Ronaldo is something that appears to have halted Nani's progress.

Fans seemed to have heaped a heavy burden on Nani’s shoulders, hoping that he would be the readymade replacement for the world class Ronaldo, which is no easy feat.

Yet still young and full of potential, if Wenger was to gamble on Nani, it may be clever business. Turkish giants Galatasaray had a £5m bid rejected by United but claim that Moyes would accept a bid in the region of £9m. We all know Wenger loves a bargain.
