Friday will see the FIFA Under-20 World Cup kick off and football's next generation will be on show.

One player in particular who will be looking to use this platform to elevate his already esteemed prodigy status is Barcelona's Gerard Deulofeu.

Hailing from humble Catalonian roots, Deulofeu was born in the village of Riudarenes. He joined Barcelona's illustrious and world-renowned La Masia at just nine years old.

His talent had various admirers and at 14 he signed an advertising contract with sports brand Nike. The similar style of play and tendencies have seen him compared with four-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi.

His success at youth level was unparalleled and this seen him earn his first competitive professional appearance for Barcelona B despite still being a member of the junior team.

This would mark the beginning of his impressive stay in the B team, competing in Spain's Segunda Division, scoring 27 goals in

68 games and these performances have seen him being tipped for big things.

The Spanish forward is highly regarded in Spain but the recent arrival of Neymar has complicated things for the 19-year-old.

The starlet is looking to further his development and experience first-team football by going out on loan. He is thought of rather highly by Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund and their energetic and charismatic coach Jurgen Klopp.

The next few weeks will see him compete alongside some of the best young talent the world has to offer, and it will be this stage that Deulofeu will have his chance to shine and announce himself to the world.
