AC Milan star Mattia De Sciglio is the most improved player in European football, according to the percentage increase in his transfer market value.

The Italian under-21 international has seen his transfer asking price rise by almost 6000 per cent over the past 18 months - the biggest value rise in one of Europe's top five leagues.

Using information from transfermrkt.co.uk, GMS has put together a top 10 containing the most improved players over the last year and a half based solely on the increase in their market value and their percentage rise.

We're basing the 10 contenders here on the biggest rise in the percentage of their value. We've also included their market value in 2012, and their market value now in 2013 - with the percentage taken from the difference between the two.

So while the likes of Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao have seen their transfer valuations rise by upwards of £25m over the past 18 months, they don't make the cut because their overall improvement in terms of percentage is much less.

Just for comparison and clarity - Cavani has seen his value increase by 124 percent, from £21.5m in January 2012 to £48.5m in June 2013.

That's a significant improvement, but it doesn't compare to someone like De Sciglio. His value has jumped from £125,000 in January 2012 to almost £8m in June 2013 - a massive rise of 5900 per cent. That's a much more impressive improvement, and reflects his rise from relative unknown to Serie 'A' starlet.
