Arsenal will not be too unhappy about their opening day fixture to the 2013/14 Premier League season, as they will welcome last season’s relegation strugglers Aston Villa from last season.

Arsene Wenger’s side will be hoping to get off to a better start this time around after they suffered one of their worst starts to a season under the Frenchman last year.

Gunners fans will not have to wait too long for their biggest match of the season, as north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur will visit Emirates Stadium in only the third fixture of the season on August 31.

Arsenal’s first encounter with champions Manchester United and their former captain Robin van Persie will come on November 9 at Old Trafford, just days after hosting Liverpool.

The traditional Boxing Day fixture will be a London derby away to West Ham United, which will cap off a tricky December for the Gunners that sees them take on Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea in consecutive games – New Year’s Day sees Wenger’s men welcome newly promoted Cardiff City.

Arsenal went the final ten games unbeaten last season but repeating that feat this time around will be significantly more difficult.

If Wenger’s side still have title aspirations by that time, they will be sorely tested as the first five of their last ten fixtures will be against Swansea City, the away clash with Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton – in that order.

Theoretically, Arsenal should be expected to win the final five but the damage may well be done by that time if Wenger cannot reinforce his squad sufficiently this summer.
