Monta Ellis, the Milwaukee Bucks leading scorer last season, has decided to leave the franchise in order to seek a move elsewhere.

Ellis has informed the Bucks that he won't take up the $11 million option in his contract that would ensure his presence in Milwaukee for the upcoming 2013-14 season.

He will instead become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

It's a move that will not come as a total surprise to the Bucks, with Ellis having rejected a two-year contract extension last fall.

The 27-year-old Guard, who led the Bucks with 19.2 points and 37.5 minutes last season, has only been with the Bucks for a season and a half, having joined from the Golden State Warriors in 2012. The Warriors selected Ellis as a second round draft pick back in 2005.

Milwaukee qualified for the playoffs in 2013, after finishing eighth in the Eastern Conference, however they were quickly swept aside by NBA finalists Miami Heat 4-0.

The Bucks also risk losing their second-leading scorer with Brandon Jennings, who combined with Ellis to contribute almost 37 percent of Milwaukee's points, becoming a restricted free agent this summer.

This means that the Bucks will have the right to match any offer for him, but his departure is a possibility.

Milwaukee have already began to adapt. They have a pair of promising big men in Larry Sanders and John Henson, and coach Larry Drew has indicated the pair will be the cornerstone of his team.

Sanders made huge strides in his third season, more than doubling his scoring average (9.8 points) and grabbing more rebids (672) than he had in his first two years combined.

Henson, a rookie, showed his potential with a monster game in Orlando in April, flirting with a triple-double with 25 rebounds, 17 points and seven blocks.
