Arsenal are ready to offload erratic winger Gervinho this summer and want to replace him with Lille star Dimitri Payet.
According to French publication L’Equipe, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen on the 26-year-old winger, but will only move for him if he can get rid of Gervinho.
The Ivory Coast international is something of an enigma and has attracted the ire of some Emirates Stadium fans because of his puzzlingly erratic displays.
Some weeks Gervinho is the best player on the pitch and a constant danger to opposition defenders, while other times he looks like he has trouble with his coordination.
Arsenal supporters are accustomed to seeing the 26-year-old get into fantastic positions, only to blunder when faced with the final pass or finish.
Marseille are reportedly interested in him and Wenger may well get the chance to bring in his desired replacement, especially as Lille confirmed he was up for sale.
L’Equipe’s report claims Marseille made a €12.5million bid for Payet and, while Lille confirmed he was available at the right price, that sum would not be sufficient.
