Stichting Betaald Voetbal Vitesse. Unless you are from the Netherlands, you are unlikely to be aware of the fact that this is the full name of the Dutch football club, Vitesse.

But ask any football fan if they have heard of Roy Makaay and Phillip Cocu and the chances are they most definitely have.

After all, who could forget the striker who scored the quickest goal in Champions League history and the captain and mainstay of the Dutch national team for the past two decades.

Now, if you are wondering about what both these players have in common with each other, apart from their time together for the national side, it is the fact that both these players came into the limelight, during their time together, with Vitesse.

Twenty years on, and history seems to be repeating itself at Vitesse. In Marco van Ginkel and Wilfried Bony, Vitesse might have just unearthed two gems, who are likely to go on and emulate the aforementioned Dutch duo.

In Van Ginkel, Vitesse boast of this year's Dutch Talent of the Year and a

midfielder whose versatility in midfield and his physique has earned him comparisons with a young Michael Ballack.

His positional discipline, defensive awareness and his excellent range of passing means that he is capable of playing both as a holding midfielder, or in the middle of a trio of attacking midfielders.

On top of all this, his ability to put the ball in the back of the net is very evident from his eight goals this season, even though he played mostly as a deep-lying midfielder.

Whilst comparisons are still very nascent, if Ginkel develops into even a shadow of a player that Cocu and Ballack were, then Holland will have themselves a tremendous talent.

Bony, top scorer in the Eredivise last year, is another rare talent who is seen as a long-term successor to Didier Drogba for the national side. And, it is easy to see why, as the striker seems to have the power, pace and physique, which would be enough to trouble any defence.

And the icing on top of the cake is his goalscoring record, which has seen him score 46 goals in just 65 games for Vitesse.

Vitesse have their work cut out to keep hold of this deadly duo, who have already attracted interest from handful of Premier League clubs including champions Manchester United and big spenders Chelsea.

And only time will tell if these two players will follow in the footsteps of their more illustrious predecessors from 20 years ago.
