Wayne Rooney aged 11 scores stunning goal at Anfield
Video: 11-year-old Wayne Rooney scores incredible goal at Anfield
'Remember the name, Wayne Rooney!' the commentator screeched as the Everton teenager stunned Arsenal with a breathtaking piece of brilliance, but those who had seen Rooney play during his formative years would have been far from surprised at the quality of the strike.
That goal against Arsenal at Goodison Park was the first significant step taken on the road to global superstardom by the striker - now, of course at Manchester United - but his potential shone through even before he was even a teenager.
One particular instance that stands out from Rooney's early days was a wonderful individual goal he scored playing for Liverpool schoolboys at Anfield, as he danced past a host of defenders and smashed the ball into the top corner.
It was a strike that suggested this 11-year-old was destined for greatness, and one that still holds fond memories for the Old Trafford star over a decade and a half later.
"I remember scoring this goal at Anfield for Liverpool schoolboys. I scored a couple of other goals in this game but this is the one I always remembered," the Manchester United striker told his official Facebook page.
"I remember having to shoulder barge a player a couple of times and cut back inside with the ball, then skipping past one player then pretending to cut inside to another player before keeping it on my right and creating some space for a shot, then hitting it as hard as I could and it flew in the roof of the net."
Rooney was already on Everton's books when he hit this screamer at the home of arch-rivals Liverpool, and has progressed to terrorise the Reds during his career as a professional.
The 27-year-old has played a prominent role in five Premier League winning squads with Manchester United, ensuring the Red Devils surpassed Liverpool's record title-haul of 18 triumphs.
