Liverpool legend tips Chelsea for the title

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes the return of Jose Mourinho will see Chelsea topple Manchester United and become Premier League champions.

Liverpool and Chelsea had an intense rivalry in Europe when Mouirnho was last in charge of the Stamford Bridge club, though the Reds could not match his sides in the league.

Carragher saw how good the Portuguese’s last Chelsea side were in winning two consecutive titles and believes he can do similarly in his second spell.

One of the biggest factors he believes will be in Mourinho’s favour is that he already has a very good side on his hands and will not need to make wholesale changes.

Add a great squad to the motivational qualities of Moruinho returning and the Anfield legend believes you get an irresistible combination.

“If you put me on the spot and ask me right now, 'Who will win the league?', then I’d pick Chelsea,” he is quoted as saying in the Mirror.

“I’d pick them because Mourinho is coming back, and also because they actually have a very good team - they had a really good team last season, with some fantastic players.”

Carragher will not be trying to thwart Mourinho sides as he did of old as he will be watching on from television studios.

The 35-year-old decided to hang up his boots at the end of last season and has taken on a role as a pundit for liver screening of the Premier League.
