Bundesliga side Hamburg are keen on bringing former Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz to the Imtech Arena.
The 31-year-old Paraguayan's contract at Manchester City expired at the end of this season following a difficult spell at the Etihad Stadium that saw the striker make only 20 appearances in his four-year stay with the club.
Santa Cruz had loan moves at Blackburn Rovers, Real Betis and Malaga - with whom he played Champions League football - during his tenure at City, and Hamburg director of sport Oliver Kreuzer hopes that Santa Cruz can fire his team to Europe next season.
"Roque has been made a financially very good offer and he has told us he finds Hamburg very interesting," Kreuzer told German newspaper Bild.
Hamburg have given Santa Cruz 10 days to consider their offer and accept their terms. "Otherwise we have got to look at other options," added Kreuzer.
Prior to his move to England, Santa Cruz spent eight seasons with Bayern Munich, making 155 appearances. He then spent two seasons with Blackburn Rovers before making the move to Manchester City.
Despite his poor spell with the Citizens, former Tottenham playmaker Rafael van deer Vaart feels that a player of Santa Cruz's calibre is what Hamberg needs to fire them to Europe next season after Hamburg finished seventh last season.
"It would be a great signing if Roque were to join us," Van deer Vaart commented. "His experience would improve the quality of our side. I rate Santa Cruz very highly. He has got what it takes to fire us into Europe."
