Rumours have been circulating lately of various names coming into Anfield.

Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodgers will of course be the man with the final say on whose names run across the shoulders of a Red jersey next season, but it is easy to question some of the potential transfers that have been mentioned lately.

First we start with Alex Pearce. Pearce is a spectacular defender for the club he's currently with, Reading. But Reading are nowhere near the calibre of club that the Reds are, and so it is easy to question this transfer.

While it may not be a transfer that cracks the starting 11, this is one that will build depth in the squad for a low price.

It is easy to see where Rodgers is going with this one, but it is difficult to fathom why Liverpool are looking for depth when the starting 11 still require improvement.

The next rumour is Asmir Begovic. Begovic is a strong keeper who could be a good number one for Rodgers, but he still isn't Pepe Reina.

Reina is a keeper who leads from his position and oversees the pitch with authority.

While the rumoured fee for Begovic stands near £12million, it is still thought this is in excess of Begovic's worth. Begovic would not fill the hole left by Reina if the transfer goes through and that is what worries Kopites everywhere.

The final, and most questionable, rumour circulating today has to be that of transfer target Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Shakthar Donetsk midfielder is indisputably a great player and this has been proven.

Not only that, but his position is one in which Liverpool need to improve. However, the ultimate question of this transfer is the money.

Reds fans have already had the heartbreak of Andy Carroll, the last thing Liverpool need is another big budget move on a player who hasn't proven himself quite yet.

Yes, Mkhitaryan is a great player, but he is not great enough to be worth the rumoured £22million transfer fee. Liverpool will be wise to avoid this transfer at this point.
