Chelsea: Three stars that could deliver success

Published 5 Comments

Rumours always circulate around Stamford Bridge every summer. Chelsea are consistently linked with the world’s brightest talent and very often the rumours are not true.

Chelsea’s attacking threat in front of goal last season was not as fierce as previous years. Even though Fernando Torres finished the season with 22 goals, most people would agree that he has not lived up to the expectations his price tag brought with him from Liverpool - and subsequently the addition of another top striker or two is vital.

Edison Cavani has been linked with Chelsea for the last couple of seasons and the big Uruguayan would undoubtedly add much-needed firepower to the Chelsea frontline.

The Napoli striker scored 29 goals in Serie A last season, leading the scoring charts and has previously been quoted as saying that it would be "a great honour to join one of the illustrious teams," referring to either Chelsea or Manchester City.

Robert Lewandowski has also alerted top European clubs of his qualities last season by firing in 36 goals in 48 appearances. The Borussia Dortmund striker also completed a master-class against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions league semi-final clash by scoring four goals that basically eliminated the Spanish giant’s chances of another European success.

An unsung hero of the Real Madrid setup, Sami Khedira is a vital part of the Real Madrid engine room by holding the centre of midfield.

The big German’s presence in midfield brings stability to the Real Madrid team and his mobility to attack and defend also adds to Khedira’s qualities.

Michael Essien plays in the same position as Khedira and his return to Chelsea this summer has fans excited, but it is Khedira that forced Essien out of the Madrid midfield and into the right-back spot when he came off the bench.

Even the addition of two of these three players would immensely improve Chelsea’s chances of attaining success this season. Only time will tell what strikes of genius Jose Mourinho will conduct this summer at the helm of Stamford Bridge.
