Gareth Bale won't be joining Real Madrid this summer, insists Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.

The Welshman has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu with the Spanish giants reportedly willing to pay more than the world-record £80 million it took to land Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, admitted he would listen to an offer from Real Madrid if one was forthcoming.

However Spurs have reportedly offered Bale the chance to become the club's highest earner if he signs a contract extension, and will not let him leave this summer whether he puts pen to paper or not.

Now Villas-Boas has backed up the reports which suggest that chairman Daniel Levy is adamant that Bale is going nowhere.

"We have the pledge of the chairman that Bale is not going to leave the club," Villas-Boas is quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper Marca.

Villas-Boas' assertions are unlikely to stop speculation linking Bale with a move to Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane appeared to try and ramp up the pressure on Spursbale by insisting Bale, who scored 21 Premier League goals last season, should try and force his way out of White Hart Lane.

AVB will hope to convince Bale his future lies in north London by his action in the transfer market this summer.

After the announcement Franco Baldini as Technical Director, Spurs are expected to pursue deals for Corinthians' Paulinho and Atletico Meneiro's Bernard amongst others.
