Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in signing Benfica striker Oscar Cardozo, according to Talksport.
Fenerbahce had initially opened talks with the Paraguayan but failed to agree a fee with Benfica. The Turkish club were unwilling to pay the £14.5 million asking price and have moved onto other forward targets such as Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
Chelsea could reignite their interest in Cardozo with their striker problems. Chelsea strikers Demba Ba and Fernando Torres only managed 10 Premier League goals between them all season and new manager Jose Mourinho is looking for new reinforcements. Top target Radamael Falcao has joined Monaco so Mourinho may now turn to Cardozo.
Liverpool could move for Cardozo if Luis Suarez leaves the club. Suarez wants to move to Real Madrid after growing frustrated with the English media. Manager Brendan Rodgers is currently looking for replacements and Cardozo is an option.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool would not bulk at Benfica's asking price of £14.5 million. Chelsea are ready to back Jose Mourinho this summer and Liverpool will receive around 40 million euros if Suarez goes to Real Madrid so will be more than able to afford Cardozo.
Oscar Cardozo is 30-years-old and has been at Benfica for six seasons. During that time he has scored 161 goals in 260 apperances. He is an out and out goalscorer and at 6ft 4in would fit into the English game. He is also a great free-kick taker and has a sweet left foot. He will no doubt be a success for either Chelsea or Liverpool.
