West Brom lead race for Chelsea midfielder
West Brom transfer news: Steve Clarke linked with a move for Yossi Benayoun
West Bromwich Albion are leading the race to sign out-of-contract Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun following his release from Stamford Bridge.
It had been suggested that earlier this month Benayoun was open to a move to the MLS, but this idea seems to have fallen through after no developments were made by any clubs in America.
And it seems that West Brom are now leading the race for the former Arsenal, West Ham and Liverpool midfielder.
Ronen Katzev, the agent of the Israel international confirmed West Brom's interest in Beanyoun, with negotiations beginning in the coming days.
Speaking to the Express, Katzev said: "West Brom have registered their interest and now we are just waiting to see what other options are available."
But Katzev didn't rule out the possibility of a move to another team within the Premier League, with negotiations on-going with another Premier League club.
Clubs in Germany and Spain have also been interested in a move for Benayoun, and Katzev is keen to explore this possibility further too, before helping his client decide his future.
"We have been negotiating with another club in the Premier League and clubs in Germany and Spain, so Yossi will have to make a decsion very soon.
"He has been playing in England for a long time now so it has become like a second home to him," added Katzev.
